Look outside first: if the street is dark too, call 105.

You're cooking dinner and everything goes dark. Or the kitchen sockets work but the lounge doesn't. Either way, you need to know: is it just you, or the whole street?

Power cut or your electrics?

  1. Look outside. Are the streetlights and your neighbours' lights off too? Then it's a power cut. Call 105, the free power cut helpline.
  2. Check your fuse box. If a switch has flipped down, it's your own electrics.
  3. Prepayment meter? Check you have credit and the screen is working.

If a switch in your fuse box has tripped

  • Unplug everything on that circuit.
  • Flick the switch back up once.
  • If it stays up, plug things back in one at a time. If one makes it trip, that appliance is the problem.
  • If it trips again with nothing plugged in, there's a wiring fault. Leave it off and call us.

More detail in why your fuse box keeps tripping.

What happens when you call

A real person answers and helps you check it's safe. Then we send the nearest electrician. We aim to be with you within 60 minutes. London traffic and busy periods can sometimes make it longer. If that happens, we'll tell you straight away and keep you updated, so you always know when we'll arrive.

How we fix it

Our electrician tests your circuits to find the fault. It might be a damaged cable, a failed socket or switch, water getting in, or a faulty fuse box. We make it safe, get power back to everything that's safe to use, and give you a fixed price for any bigger repair.

How a callout works

  1. You call. A real person answers and talks you through making it safe.
  2. We dispatch the nearest free engineer and text you their name and arrival time. We aim for 60 minutes, and if traffic or a busy night means longer, we tell you straight away.
  3. The engineer diagnoses the fault and gives you a fixed price before starting.
  4. We fix it, tidy up and email your invoice and photos.

See our callout prices. If you decide not to go ahead after the quote, you pay only the callout.

Common questions

Who do I call in a power cut?

Call 105. It's the free national helpline for power cuts. If only your home has no power, check your fuse box, and call us if it won't reset.

Why has half my house got no power?

Usually one circuit has tripped at the fuse box. That's often caused by a faulty appliance, a damaged cable or water. Unplug everything and reset the switch to find out which.

Can an electrician come out at night?

Yes. Our electricians are on call 24 hours a day, including weekends and bank holidays.

Areas we cover

We cover central London (Westminster, the City, Kensington and Chelsea) and west London (Hammersmith, Fulham, Chiswick, Acton and Ealing).
